Maxime grew up on Reunion Island where he developed his passion for the ocean and water sports. Local surfers gave him his nickname of "Macabi", meaning little fish in Creole due to his prowess as a free diver. Maxime's passion for surfing developed later on following a family trip to Margaret River and in 2003 the talented young surfer was spotted and taken on board by Quiksilver. He has flourished ever since.
His focus and the support of his family play a major role in young Macabi's progression and improving contest results. In 2007 at the World Championship in Caparica, Portugal he achieved the best French result to become the youngest European surfer to rank 6th in the under 16s.
In 2008 Maxime became the youngest ever surfer to win the ASP European Junior Title at only age 16. To claim the title he won the ASP Grade-4 event in the Canary Islands, the biggest junior event of the year. Placed 3rd in the Rip Curl Pro Junior in Portugal and never dropped below a quarter final throughout the year. The title also meant that Maxine would lead the European Junior Team to the ASP World Junior Championships.
Regular trips to Australia and surfing alongside elite fellow team riders such as Kelly Slater and Jeremy Flores fuels Maxime's enthusiasm for surfing world class waves. Being of a discrete and friendly nature Maxime is well respected by his peers. Maxime recently participated in the shooting of the prestigious Quiksilver surf movie "Young Guns 3".
